| Day 1: | Home City / Davenport, IA | | Arrive by mid afternoon at the Quad Cities International Airport. Settle into your Davenport hotel, get acquainted at an included dinner and then be part of an evening sightseeing cruise on the Mississippi River. (D) Holiday Inn |
| Day 2: | Davenport / Dubuque, IA | |
This morning tour the Isabel Bloom Sculpture Studio, and then explore the new Figge Art Museum, which features excellent views of the river. Walk to the River Music Experience to trace the people and the music along America’s River. Lunch will be served here. This afternoon take a guided tour of the John Deere Pavilion and Collector’s Center in Moline. Late this afternoon depart the Quad Cities and travel to Dubuque, another historic Iowa Mississippi River City. (B,L) Holiday Inn |
| Day 3: | Dubuque | | Today experience The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. Enjoy a tasty lunch at Catfish Charlie’s where you can dine on the namesake indigenous to The River. This afternoon cross the Mississippi to Illinois for a Trolley Tour of nearby Galena, once home to President Ulysses S. Grant. Browse the shops on Galena’s main street before returning to Dubuque for a special evening that will include a guided tour of some of Dubuque’s beautiful Victorian homes, featuring a five course progressive dinner served in four of the homes. | Day 4: | Dubuque / La Crosse, WI | | Depart Dubuque and travel north into Wisconsin. Along the way, stop at the site of the movie, “Field of Dreams”, near Dyersville and Pike’s Peak State Park near McGregor to view the course of The River from 550 feet above the water. Lunch is included as part of your visit to Villa Louis, a 19th century mansion built on the banks of the Mississippi. This afternoon, arrive in the Wisconsin River City of La Crosse. Tonight experience an “Evening at Norskedalen”, including a tour of the Norwegian Valley, a Norwegian Supper and entertainment featuring Scandinavian Folk Tunes and Ole & Lena Stories. | Day 5: | La Crosse / Minneapolis, MN | |
Begin your day with a visit to the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center and the City Brewing Company before departing the La Crosse area. In Minnesota, our first stop is in Kellogg for lunch at the Rocking Horse Café, followed by a tour of L.A.R.K. Toys, the nation’s largest independent toy store. Just up the road, and the river, is Wabasha, home to the brand new National Eagle Center. Traveling north along the Mississippi, we have great views of The River and the opportunity to stop in Red Wing at the famous Stoneware Company by the same name. We arrive in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul early this evening where your evening is free. (B,L) Courtyard by Marriott |
| Day 6: | Minneapolis St Paul (The Twin Cities) | | Breakfast will be on your own at the Mid-Town Global Market, an international farmer’s market offering 20 different places to eat, some with live entertainment. Next stop will be the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, housing nearly 100,000 works of art from around the world. A guided tour of the fascinating Guthrie Theatre, with some great views of the Mississippi, is also included. A short walk away is the new Mill City Museum, a fascinating interactive museum displaying the importance of the milling industry to the area. You will have lunch here at a café that only serves nostalgic food items. There will be some free time to explore the Minneapolis Riverfront District on your own before departing from Boom Island for a Dinner Cruise aboard the new Minneapolis Queen, a cruise that will be your final ride on The River. | Day 7: | Minneapolis St Paul / Home | | Your final exposure to the Mississippi River will come this morning when you enjoy breakfast and a wonderful view of The River from the Carousel Restaurant high atop the Crown Plaza Hotel in St. Paul. Drive by the Minnesota State Capitol, and be part of a tour of the Cathedral of St. Paul, a church modeled after Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Then it’s off to the airport to catch your homeward bound flight. (B) |
